Art

In the process of creating art we apply the same principles of connection, listening, neutrality and non possession that we apply to music. We believe art has the potential to support the development of human consciousness by expressing universal knowledge and understanding, by strengthening qualities, inspiring visions, opening the doors to new worlds. We foster art that responds to the invisible rather than style, to function rather than personality.

In a natural company of artists, and specifically for us as Trust Companions, the art & the craft do not represent the first principle. The reason why we do art though, is the first principle. So in the case of the music we compose, the artworks, the dance, the videos, the lyrics, the methodology, the live concerts and the studio recordings, the results in themselves are not the first principle. The source of everything, where the essence lies, is in the reason why we made a song or a drawing and why we played in that specific place to those particular people.

For instance, in the case of our first EP “an Opportunity”, the process of choosing the artwork (cover, back cover and inside booklet) was very important, because we wanted to try to transfer the reason why we composed these songs, the very cause they exist and why they came to us. This was far more important than the style of how it would look, how appealing and polished the result would be. After several sketches, drafts, ideas and concepts both of photos and handmade drawings, the eureka moment came when we applied this methodology to our workflow and eventually we decided to combine the two. We chose two very iconic pictures in the history of mankind, the so-called “Earthrise”, first picture ever of our planet portrayed from the moon, rising up from below the satellite’s horizon, and the “Hubble deep field” photo, the first image capturing thousands and thousands of galaxies posing altogether while dancing to some higher cosmic music.

Both snapshots represent two of the most huge mind-shifts in the psychology of human society: first the change of perspective towards our home as a whole, and second the shift in the perception of our place in the universe and us beginning to grasp its vastness and its mysterious character. This is exactly what we try to foster and promote with the track “Opportunity” – which also gives its name to the EP where it’s contained – and its siblings “Grace” and “Humility”, both unavoidable qualities if we want to keep living under these skies and upon this Earth in peace. We decided to include these pictures in a black & white context, or to be more precise, grey & white, which obviously recalls the pale environment of the Moon but it is also much more than that. It is meant to be a neutral frame to offer a true and real view of our planet, a colorless window into the small and big universe at the same time, without judgement or imposition, just purely what it is. The bright and sober portal around the breathtaking view wants to be an invitation, almost a suggestion, that there is something else to it to be unveiled, that there is a doorway to pass though and you are the only one who can decide to take the step forward and join the call.

Generally, the way we work is quite synesthetic, which means for example that together with sounds and words, visuals will often come as well as colors, smells even, feelings and values. In fact, every song that has been published and will be published, has its own collection of pictures, water paintings, drawings, graphics, etc. Several listening sessions on all our tracks have been carried out by many people (inside and outside of the Trust Companions) in order to register people’s perceptions and impressions and to find out if some of them are the same for everyone. Surprisingly, that was very much the case! Most songs would summon a particular feeling, or an image, a quality, a color, and that would be shared by most of the people who heard the same music. The resemblances of suggestions from different people left us speechless! For us, there is something in these songs which resonates to the core of our being… and we hope that this might be the same for you!

One step at a time, on this page we will share some of the artworks and collections connected to the songs – some will be drafts, some will be more complete works. You are welcome to send us your version of them, if and when you’ll make any.
